Remarkably I have no certainty around whodunnit, and I’m almost finished the book! I think I know, but there’s a bit of a stumbling block over part of how they dumped the body. I sometimes find Paige a little annoying, but she’s also compelling. Reading this a chapter at a time. It’s a break from the other heavy stuff I’m reading. Nice I can do that!

Fitting end to Paige’s escapades, and I’d forgotten it even though I’d remembered the gruesome scene from my previous reading! I’m not sure what to make of not being able to remember much of this novel. I’d have visualized and verbalized when I last read it. But maybe that second concussion or working on my concussion site drained any memory storage ability?? In any case, a fun read.

I’m reading this for the third time, according to my Goodreads data. The last time was in 2021 when I was visualizing and verbalizing what I was reading and doing pretty well with comprehension and recall. I don’t recall whodunnit. Yet I have a feeling I know who it is. Still, the writing is fun, and Paige is a very likeable protagonist. And the last time I thought I remembered whodunnit, I was wrong.

Don’t remember last page number but finished the book in one chapter by chapter of visualizing and minimally Verbalizing. I had one part of whodunnit correct, totally missed the clues to why. I can see them now. Sigh. Liked the tone, liked the fun cleverness of the mystery. A decent read. And except for paramedics error (none until much later), well edited. It’s a good setup for the series.

Sometimes fiction has the most profound lines. “There’s nothing reasonable about war, and when the world has lost its reason, a plan is as good as a dead battery.” You can say the same for major health catastrophes that go on and on into disability, screwing up opportunities that come your way.

Well, I really suck at prediction. I forgot about the scene of the crime and what detectives naturally do. But, I suppose, my prediction was ultimately right. Read two more chapters. Didn’t verbalize much - tired. Also, I do find it harder to discern letters on the physical page of a mass paperback than in an ebook or on iPad. Maybe practice will make it easier. :)

Even though I wanted to keep reading, and had taken a break between chapters, I had to listen to the developing concentration headache. Lots of details to visualize because you don’t know in a mystery was is key and what’s irrelevant. Also it makes for more engaging reading building up a movie in your mind. Paige has a really fun voice. It’s nice to escape into a world before I was born.

I don’t know when I read this originally. But the menu was to balance reading Revelation for Everyone with something light and fun. This book has been sitting in my bookcase, like brand new, probably since 2003 (pub date) when I was still using strategies to read, thinking they’d work eventually. Nope. Concentration headache from reading a page with LOTS of words on it unlike an ebook page. Chapter 1 done. Tired.
