HOW IS THIS BOOK SO GOOD

Both of these characters are so relatable and I'm longing for a lost fictional city what the heck 

The main character is an asshole but with enough self-awareness about that fact and enough redeeming qualities that I enjoy him.

Also I would die for Alejandro

Already infinitely quotable, & the narration is a perfect fit for the writing style: good, even pacing that's on the slower side and lends itself toward the heft of the descriptive prose. Normally I'd need a quicker pace to keep up without zoning out, but Williams' writing style is dense in the rare good way, and Montgomery's narration helps me keep up without getting lost in the imagery and witty turns of phrase.
