Here I am again with another Marie Benedict book. I want so badly to enjoy these books because they highlight interesting and strong women from history. I cannot, however, get past the writing style. What is it? The superfluous SAT vocabulary that does nothing to add to the plot? That she “tells” instead of “showing”? The audacity to assume the inner dialogue of historical figures? The lack of dimensionality?
