I've been saying this about quite a few books recently but I really might not finish this one. I knew the premise was silly going in, but it's trying so hard to be the Hitchhiker's Guide and failing spectacularly. The contrast between how upbeat and embellished the prose and how flimsy and drab the plot is, makes for a jarring and uncomfortable reading experience.
