I'm reading this and three other books touching on radical reforms to capitalist economies as part of a class I'm auditing on that topic with Gabriele Contessa at Carleton.
I decided to audit because I've been reading a lot of Marxism and thought it would be a good idea to learn a bit more economics. I was specifically interested in this book because, although Van Parisj no longer identifies as a Marxist, he was closely associated with G.A. Cohen's group of Analytic Marxists in the 1980s.
I really enjoyed "What is wrong with a free lunch?". It's a book by Van Parisj where he first presents UBI and its advantages and then you get short papers both in favour and against UBI by a bunch of philosophers, economists, etc. It really gives you a broader perspective on the good, the bad and the complicated of UBI. There is also a really good section on UBI in "Utopia for realists", but it's a bit more rosy-eyed.
