Monads have come along way since Leibniz. Actually I learnt today that Leibniz popularised the notion of the monad but that greek philosophers were working on this for decades and decades before.

Newton's assumption that gravitation of the planet is the sum of all gravitation of all its individual portions-> terrestrial bodies gravitate towards each other -> even the smallest particles attract each other.
