I don't know how I feel about the romance aspect. It seems more...forced in there than anything else. There haven't been any interactions really between them, so it's mainly just going on looks and they've had years to interact with one another. And now, on their date, they're talking about...work stuff. I'm not learning anything about the characters, I'm getting world building.

That's an odd choice. Why give us the present day after the attack and then go back to the attack? Why not just have the aftermath of the attack after the attack? This makes me worried about the story being all over the place,
