Next time someone says to me "damn straight" or, while giving directions, "go straight," I shall say, "gaily forward, never straight." The dialogue and interaction is so warm I can really feel the friendship between these two very different men, but there is an edge there too, something is volcanic beneath this sturdy mountain-strong friendship.

Oh, for the love of--! Is Tim supposed to be annoying? Because he is. Incredibly so. Intensely emotionally immature. I don't mind that in itself; indeed, I love journeys of growth, but... ARGH. He may be a "genius," but it's certainly not EQ. I was already tired of his childish behaviour *before* he decided to figure himself out by dating Peter, an uninteresting secondary character. I don't have time for this.

Oh boy. And now chapter three opens with a third POV: Rick's. Do not want. We already have Tim's and Con's. My commitment is wavering....

Weeeellll, I'm not quite buying this sudden "brush with death" confession, but I suppose things like that do happen. It felt really... early...? for it to happen in the story? Maybe the author was going for the "this isn't happening" effect in the reader, the same effect that ppl get when "wrong place at wrong time" things happen? Erm... but to have it happen twice in Tim's life...? I dunno... but I'll keep reading.

Lol! I've never heard the maxim "it's not the size of the boat; it's the motion of the ocean."
