Only just getting started with this book, but I'm seriously struggling to continue. The atrocious relativization of human suffering that pervades the intro is just staggering. The thinking seems to be "we're suffering much less now as a "human race" than we were 200 years ago, therefore it's hardly even worth talking about current suffering! Who cares about Africa anyway! Capitalism rules!!!". Not sure I'll continue.

Only just getting started with this book, but I'm seriously struggling to continue, and I may never. The insane relativization of human suffering that pervades the intro made me stop with nausea. Never have I read a more disgusting ode to exploitative capitalism, and a less emphatic outlook at mankind. I'm finding it hard to understand that this is the same author as Sapiens.
