Wow the Divergent movie was a lot better than expected. It made me like the book a lot more and I am curious how they will tackle the plot mess of Insurgent and Allegiant. For once I am hopeful. Hahhahaha.

Maida I'm still so traumatized by "Allegiant." I'll only watch the movies *if* they do a thorough rewrite of "Allegiant" b/c you're ABSOLUTELY right! The plot was a mess. I couldn't believe that it was actually written by the same author who wrote "Divergent."

To be honest the Divergent Movie follows the book almost to a T. But what I liked about it is that they omitted things (there's no Edward and his GF for example or Peter stabbing Edward in the eye, Zeke and Urijah are missing, etc...) but all this is done to make the plot very tight and engaging. As a movie I thought it was very very tight.

But yeah I'm very curious how they will tackle Insurgent..... There's a lot less emphasis on the romance in Divergent (as compared to the books) so maybe Tris and Four won't angst it out all the way.

Like I think the movie producers did a really good job with Catching Fire even though I really though the book was near perfect but the movie made it even better.

Hopefully the movies can save the Divergent series. Naively still being hopeful :)

Maida I agree that tightening the plot would make the storyline more engaging. I'm glad to hear that Edward & his GF are absent in the movie. But no Urijah? Um, how would that work? He plays a pretty big role in "Allegiant," after all.

"Insurgent" was so jam-packed with extraneous info, characters & scenes. So I don't know how the screen writers are going to decide what gets taken out & what remains.

I LOVE that the "Divergent" movie placed a lot of emphasis on the romance. But what do the producers intend to do when they write the screenplay for "Allegiant?" B/c "Allegiant" (the novel) was anything but romantic, IMO. :(

The movie producers mentioned that the rest of the Dauntless Initiates that play a big part in Insurgent and Allegiant (like Edward and Marlene) have already been casted and are actually in the movie. It's just that you don't know who they are as they aren't mentioned by name but they are in the background scenes:

I googled the Urijah actor and the Edward actor and yes I do remember seeing them when I was watching the movie (Urijah during the Zipline scene, he was the one that invited Tris just like the book and Edward's blonde self is there except he doesn't lose an eye or gets kicked out) so it's not to say they aren't in there, they just don't play a big role for now.

Actually the "Divergent" movie actually placed less emphasis on the romance which was why when they got together it felt a little strange. They omitted the Drunk Four scene, the scene where he followed her to Erudite and the other scene where she comforts Four after going into his fear landscape. There's a lot more subtle flirting but it's very subtllleeee. So when they get to the tattoo kiss scene it was so sudden.

I agree the Allegiant book was not romantic at all and instead had Tris and Four making out all the time, arguing than going back to making out. Ugh. But seeing as how they lessen the scenes between Four and Tris and chose to focus on the Erudite takeover, I am HOPING those scenes are removed from Insurgent and Allegiant.... *crosses fingers*

Maida Wow, thank you SO much for the info! It's sad that the "Divergent" movie omitted the Drunk Four scene & the fear landscape scene. Those scenes were the ones that felt the most "authentic" to me & made me fall in love with Tris & Four. How in the world is the movie supposed to explain Tris & Four's strong connection without more of their background story?

I agree that the Allegiant scenes were VERY poorly done. It was just so jarring. They'd be arguing, & then all of a sudden, it's like they just had to have a make-out scene as a means of making up (sort of like make-up sex). I would have preferred some deep, honest conversation instead. I hated that they weren't being completely honest with one another. And I especially hated when Four went behind Tris's back to meet with that girl (Was her name Nora?). Four & Tris always worked best when they worked as a team (climbing the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, going through Four's fear landscape, breaking into & escaping from Erudite Headquarters). They were kindred spirits-- it was them versus the World. Sadly, "Allegiant" destroyed that dynamic between them. So I agree with you!!! I'd rather have no romance scenes in "Allegiant" than the crappy Tris & Four scenes that I'd rather burn from my memory. :(

Mi I'm glad to hear it! I didn't think Divergent, the book, was very strong but thought it could make a good movie because they'd have to do away with all the useless filler. And I didn't even read Insurgent and Allegiant >.>

Your welcome dear! :)

@Mi: Yeah Divergent wasn't that great as a book but it was a pretty entertaining movie. Insurgent and Allegiant on the other hand *shakes head* don't bother with the books just watch the movie.
