Meh. A book about working class people for people who have never been below the bottom 30%.

I find it a little distasteful that she is actually taking charity when she doesn't need it (while complaining about the quality of it). Does she think these resources are infinite? Do the research to see what's being offered and then use your massive safety net to procure the same items so you don't waste the time and resources of others.

Why is she wasting so much money eating out? That she then complains that all this fast food is "dispiriting." 🙄

She's mad because they asked her to work an 11 hour shift because they're not supposed to work you more than 40 hours weekly without overtime??? What? Man, wait until she hears about nurses!
No wonder no one ever picked her out as being exceptionally smart. She functions well in her world, I am sure, but living in different classes requires different skill sets. She doesn't seem to grasp this or even notice it.

The way she just walks out of these jobs as if not giving any sort of notice whatsoever isn't going to make the next few shifts hell for the co-workers she is leaving behind is just so, so tone deaf.

I find her need to explain what a pizza pocket is hilarious. I wonder if she is too upper class for the frozen food aisle? It was very much a "how much could a banana cost? $10?" kind of moment.

So far, it is as equally mystifying to me that someone has never experienced poverty in adulthood as it is to the author how people survived. What must it be like to have NEVER been poor? 😄
