Ashes: Creepy and didn’t go where I thought. 4/5
The Ghost-Eater: Fine? Didn’t really do much for me. 2/5
The Loved Dead: Super weird but not bad. 3/5
Deaf, Dumb and Blind: Another one that took ages to get into and wasn’t worth it. 1/5
Two Black Bottles: Pretty good, quite neat conceit. 3/5
The Trap: I really enjoyed this one: imaginative concept and ticked along well. 4/5

Out of the Aeons: Quite liked this one. Creepy and weird. 3/5
The Horror in the Burying-Ground: One of those frustrating ones where it is blindingly obvious what’s happening and it strains credulity that the characters can’t work it out. 2/5
The Diary of Alonso Typer: Had to have several run ups at this and it wasn’t worth the effort. 1/5
The Horror at Martin’s Beach: Okay, short and vague. 2/5

The Man of Stone: Now this one was again very good! Hugely enjoyed the read and sets up the other themes I enjoy in Heald’s stories. 5/5
The Horror in the Museum: Right till the end I hugely enjoyed this but the ending puts a bow on things rather too neatly: I’d have preferred it to end maybe 5 pages sooner. 4/5
Winged Death: Returning to the aforementioned themes, very much enjoyed this tale of karma. 5/5

The Curse of Yig: Amazing. Heartbreaking, terrifying, and made me really want to yell at the main characters. 5/5
The Mound: Again, amazing. Really enjoyed it (and now I understand more of The Forgotten Age!) 5/5
Medusa’s Coil: This was okay. Quite scary, mostly quite predictable. 3/5

The Green Meadow: I really felt that this didn’t really go anywhere. 1/5
The Crawling Chaos: Again, unconvinced. 1/5
The Last Test: Now we’re talking. Chilling, creepy, taut, and compelling. Really enjoyed it. 4/5
The Electric Executioner: Vaguely scary, but didn’t get better than pretty good. 3/5
