‘Die Sammlung’ and the fact that Klaus endorsed an anti-Nazi declaration protesting Germany’s annexing of the Saarland were used to find him guilty of high treason and eligible for “denaturalization.” On November 1, 1934, his name was included on Goebbel’s famous four lists which publicly stripped Germany’s intelligentsia of its citizenship (Heinrich Mann’s name had been on the first list). Klaus became stateless.

Quite seriously, I cannot help the feeling that they won’t stop fooling around with devastating gadgets before they’ll have blown up our whole little universe. Not that I think it would be a major loss if our earth went to pieces!

He heard someone mentioned his friend Therese. “I rather like Frau Giehse” he heard Hitler announce. According to Klaus, Hitler spoke “with a weird sort of politeness, very much as if a madman tried to behave in a nice, civilized way to fool his guardians.” One accomplice then said she surely had Jewish blood. Hitler dismissed the charge. “After all, I know the difference between a German artist and a Semitic clown.”

We Saarländer have always been a plaything of history, but this was by far the ugliest turn of events.

No doubt about it, Meike. It always greatly puzzles me how this could have happened. I try to understand, but it is not to be understood. Nevertheless, nowadays Germany is the most decently minded country in Europe in my opinion.

And on the other side of the border, in Lothringia, Marine LePen's army of idiots is quite strong...Don't get me wrong, I love France (as a Saarländerin, I have French ancestors who were born in my own hometown which used to be French), but they are struggling with the new right as well, and their results in the polls make me sad and angry.
Yes, Meike, just tonight I saw on the TV news that new star of the extreme right in France. Just shocking. It appears that he is more extreme than Marine LePen. Looked like he had a big crowd of adoring fans and it was stated that perhaps he will be the one standing as candidate against Macron. What’s happening in the world?!
