say what i will about how dry this book is at times, i can't deny that i've never held so many philosophical and narrative considerations for all actions taken in the plot. the writing made me feel like i as the reader HAD paul's prescience - i weighed how every action related to every past action and could relate to future action. i am fully immersed in the culture of this story.

i want to like Paul, but i'm halfway through the book and his entire character is just impressing the adults around him by how insightful he is and nothing else. i'm most intrigued by the bene gesserit, specifically paul's mom, and Yueh whose inner monologue is SO cheesy cliché unwilling villain with tragic backstory but dare i say i like that.

feels like the book is constantly trying to get me to like Duke Leto when he is so clearly just an imperialist with slightly more progressive ideas than the villains of this book. a hypocrite that hates others for doing exactly what he's doing with a little less compassion. i really really cannot stand him.
