Every time I read Matheson I'm torn because I do think he's got a really good grasp of what horror is, but everything he writes is so deeply misogynist I can't enjoy it at all. You could argue that the main character isn't meant to be right in his assessments here, but fundamentally this book is about how women are literal bloodsuckers and how he is both attracted to and repulsed by them. It's telling.
