I get why this book is popular and what it's trying to do but it looks like it's not for me.
I think I'm oversaturated with pieces of media trying to humanise "both sides" which doesn't help.
I think this is also a case of the blurb hurting rather than helping a book bc it takes a loooong time to get to that point in the story.
I'm also not sure I like the story arc with the gem.

It's that I'm nearly finished with it but I dislike this book. It's not for me. I can see why others liked it if I look at it from a different angle, but it's dragging me down and dragging on.

It does help that the chapters are really short, makes it easy to finish despite being lengthy, although I find myself reluctant to pick it back up and eager to start something else. I know this is an unpopular opinion because I can see that a bunch of my friends have given this 4 and 5 stars so I'm preparing to be illuminated later on, either by the story or the friends who did like it.
