I thought about this after finishing the second chapter, but Mary keeps on growing on me because of how she's a parallel to Yumeko. She bucks against Hyakkaou's system as much as the other young woman, although in a different way.

I forgot that the vice president was involved with this current gamble. She's forcing Mary into a corner by having her play "hero" so rthey can work together. Sneaky.
