I have a feeling I’m being set up by Tillich; it’s as though these are the worst arguments one might suggest, some sort of straw man

He rejects ontology, but then goes on to talk about Christ as Logos without realizing the Hellenistic irony

I have no idea what the hell Tillich is talking about. He seems to confuse “person” with “human,” but making the humanity of Christ the “personal life,” which is among the heresies of the early church. At times, he seems to come close to Norris Clark’s personalism, but then retreats to word salad. Delicious word salad.

Tillich’s ontology is whack, as is his critique of it. What he articulates as biblical theology is, in fact, a univocal ontology. He then goes on to reject a participatory ontology that he misunderstands as finitude coming of of an infinite substance?!

Thought the question of the relation between “biblical religion” and philosophy is rightly asked, his description of “being” is oddly phrased and imprecise: for example that God is identical with being.
