Met with my lovely editor this week about my next book. It's a novel about a musician and a magical instrument. Now here's a question for all of you: which instrument?

Not a flute, that's been done. How about a piccolo?

I'm partial to cello and bassoon. The richness of tones and the ability to vibrate your core without excessive volume make both instruments multi-dimensional and emotive.
Guitar may be overrated (as some people say it is) but personally, Guitar's so awesome and it's magical. So yes, this is just an unpopular suggestion, Thanks Sir Mitch :)
Hi, I was just wondering, a harp? I personally find it beautiful and it just attracts me in a certain way, like the piano and the violin, but somehow I have a deeper feeling for it... Unexplainable, really. :)
This is different, but what about drums? I have in mind such as in drum circles. I found the beat of the drums to be quite primeval, and I felt that beat deep in my inner being.
A magical instrument mentioned heretofore in literature? Or a newly imagined one, creating endless possibilities? I'd go with the kazoo. A magical Kazoo.
Magical instrument ... Hmmm depends on the character , more old school I would suggest a harmonica , if we are more contemporary I would suggest a violin . As both are easily transportable. A little more hipster could have the person playing something like a ukelele
string instruments are the best. But if it is something super portable I would suggest drum sticks. They can be carried anywhere and the character can use them on anything they like. Anything can be a drum.
