This guy really is rather incompetent bumbling around. "Oops, got myself into trouble again." He talks himself into and out of trouble often. And he also has this weird combination of extreme loyalty (saving this person might cause war, but darn it, I'm saving them) and "eh, whatever, I got this guy to offer me 10,000 gold, let's set him up to be killed".
