It has become a bit complicated, with many new characters introduced during the Second World war sections. I like the recurring references to 'cogs in the machine'

The story is developing well. There are a lot of characters with which to get to grips. I am finding that I have to go back to re-read earlier sections to keep up with the plot. However, as with other Kate Atkinson books the crafting of the story and the characterisation is very good
