Since the poet is mentioning Van Gogh and him cutting his ear off, I read somewhere that even if this is one of the things he is most famous for, it's still not 100% certain that he did it all by himself. Some people believe there is evidence that points out that it was done by one of his friends during a fight. Same as his suicide. Many people believe he was accidentally shot and covered for the guilty person.

Note so I won't forget about it later: there is a poem that appears twice but the 2nd time around, the first line from the other version is its last here and vice versa.
