What are emotions? “To me, they are the way we use the sum of our experiences to understand how we feel in particular circumstances. Who you are, where you are, and what you are doing are just as important as what you feel. Each language has its own words for feelings. Each culture, even each family, has its own understanding of how you should behave when experiencing those feelings. ”

The Greeks called emotions pathē, meaning "experi-ence" or "suffering." Whether it was one or the other depended on which pathe you were experiencing (or suffering).

“To feel something about something, there has to be something to feel feelings about, something to admire. ”

“The crusaders hated their enemy, deeply. To these men, Muslims were more than an enemy; they were a threat and a danger.”
So much about love.

“Augustine saw war as an act of correction, a bit like disciplining a child who has misbehaved. He wrote:
They who have waged war in obedience to the divine command, or in conformity with His laws have represented in their persons the public justice or the wisdom of government, and in this capacity have put to death wicked men; such persons have by no means violated the commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”

“Crusading as a Use of Love”
It is amazing to read about the Crusading from others perspective. The use of love is surprise for me.

“The boy said, “Take up and read; take up and read.” Augustine realized that he still had the scrolls containing the books of the New Testament on his desk, ”
This is similar to what the Muslim prophet heard when Holly spirit visited him.

“But there’s another side to this discussion. Some philosophers argue that love isn’t an emotion at all. Instead, it’s an emotion complex—the sum of a range of feelings that you attach to something or someone over time. That might be a mix of lust, attraction, attachment, care, perhaps even frustration at times. ”

What is love?
“First, there’s lust, kicked off by the hormones that live in our sex organs—testosterone and estrogen.”
“Then, if you like the person you lust after, the hypothalamus kicks out another chemical—dopamine—to trigger attraction. ”
“Finally, there’s attachment, which mostly relies on oxytocin. Oxytocin is released during bonding—specifically childbirth, breastfeeding, and sex. ”

“I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.”
This idea is deeply opposed by Islam ( وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى(
