The main character gets engaged to the duke so therefore her family won't marry her off to an old man. Though her best friend, the original villainess of this story seems to be put off by this arrangement. We later figure out why as she has developed feelings for the main character, this then spirals into a monologue about how she wishes she was a man due to the time frame being very sexist.

Sasha has learned to survive amongst the high society she lives in by being everyones pet. Though it comes with its downsides such as, her dignity, and sometimes being physically abused as a way for the higher class members to let out some steam. She doesn't mind though since its all to survive, while in a ball she catches the eye of the antagonist of the story who becomes interested in her immediately.
