I want to argue with Junior about the essentially conservative nature of his endeavor, and then he attacks the Open Education movement of the 70s that I was 'educated' into, and his real target becomes clear.
But he is very literate.

Intriguing ideas and presentation; by primary disagreement is with Hirsch's claim that 'cultural literacy' is or is not essentially a conservative effort; insofar as its aim is to preserve and present cultural history as 'canon', then his intention is to conserve that culture for the education of coming generations. I fail to see this backward-glancing effort as anything but conservative.
