Cumbersome start so far. Liberty's supposed to be a character that's controlled by her parents, but I'm not really pulled into the narrative. Oliver seemed nice. The conflict is a little too told versus shown, and oversold for point.

"Inspiring" my foot. I'm calling it now, though I think it won't be until late tomorrow before I have a chance to explain my reasons in the review. I'm just going to give you the rating now.

Zero stars. Seriously. Not worth the digital ink it was printed on and I am quite upset/sorry to say that.

Review to come.

And this book turns back to the sexual assault.

Almost done, I'll probably have to write my review sometime tomorrow, because it's likely to be long.

NO, NO, NO! This is not cute or cool. This book is pulling a "Levitating Las Vegas" card and I'm not happy about it. Please stop using mental illness in such a trivial and offensive way, NA authors. Please just stop. Coming up with some bogus mental disorder for the parents to rule over their child's head because she wants to gain independence is complete and utter B.S.

Body/weight shaming. Not cool, Andrew. I think that makes the third time in this book, and while I know he's not a good character and the heroine hates him, this doesn't improve the quality of the narrative much. I just want to throw the book at all the characters at this point, but I'm definitely going to finish this.

Unless something changes, my review will contain multiple uses of the word "fake."

Yeah, I think I know the problem with this one. Heroine is far too juvenile. And this feels too juvenile of a narrative for NA, but yet it doesn't apply to YA because the heroine's supposed to be 21. She acts no more than being 13 or 14. Not only that, the narrative itself is overstating/overselling the conflict. It's too obvious and I'm honestly having a hard time figuring out why this is getting so much praise.

This is 142 pages in the galley, so for the short length, I'm going to give it a try. There were a lot of book bloggers who loved this one, let's see how it goes.
