Pax rummaged through his bag for his cell phone, carefully reaching around his gun all while Faith smiled sweetly at him. Her full red lips were distracting. Who was he kidding? Everything about her was distracting.
Flakes of snow glittered in her blonde hair. What would he have done if Faith hadn’t followed him back into the cabin? Thrown her over his shoulder? He’d been lucky. For now. The real danger was coming

Pax threw his shoulder against the edge of the tree and shoved it aside so that she could scramble free. He pushed through the door and helped her into the virtually untouched living room. Using his leg, he slammed her bedroom door shut against the storm and brought her to the couch. Thank goodness, he was her big, strong Brawny man. He set her against the cushions, and almost fell over her in the process.

She winked. Well, she didn’t mean to wink; it was just that she had those happy almond shaped eyes that were already creased on the sides from so much smiling.

Pax had devoured each one of Faith's letters after her brother passed them on. He had found some strange solace in them. Pax had been determined to turn his life around when he got out.
His eyes slanted up to where Faith was making dinner. Her necklace rested against the graceful line of her collarbone. The adornment was nothing to her soft skin. He swallowed.

I’m staring, aren’t I?
One sweeping glance at the guy’s ring finger let her know that he was single. She swallowed. “I’d show you around the place, but…” her voice trailed off at his penetrating look.
Andrew had one blue eye and one green. Intriguing.
No, no, it isn’t. Knock it off.
She cleared her throat. “I’ve got to go.”
“In this storm?” He had a Texas drawl. “You should probably wait for it to pass.”

Sublime.
She’d heard once that that was the name for dangerous beauty—she was surrounded by it; glacial temperatures that would cut her down, magnificent vistas that would unfeelingly swallow her whole, elegant and sinister predators that would devour her if they could.
It would seem that she was obsessed with the sublime.
She took a deep breath, the mist leaving her lips in the below freezing weather.
