I'm 63% into The Notorious Rake and it's just....bad. It's just nothing at all like any Mary Balogh I have read. This is one of the worst heroes ever. I am finding nothing redeemable about him yet and the story is almost over.

(I skipped Counterfeit Betrothal and am reading The Notorious Rake) - Umm he loves her?? All I've read is how much they hate each other. How she's not pretty. How he's just worst person in society. This is the worst MB I've tried so far :(

I skipped over A Counterfeit Betrothal and started The Notorious Rake because we had some members discussing it in Upturned Petticoats facebook group. The first sex scene is less than 10 pages and is really not hot - the heroine is terrified of storms and while the hero is comforting her, he hikes her dress up and puts her on a table and has sex with her. She doesn't even know him or like him..

Both stories were written in 1992, so maybe that's why the writing is different?

It did have a turn around towards the end. Still I can't say I liked it. :P I might peek through the first book too, A Counterfeit Betrothal just to see what that one is like.
