I feel like I should apologize to someone for this, but I couldn't even make it through the first chapter of Karen French's Imposter. I'll never know if the story was great or the romance hot. I was far, far too bothered by the utter lack of plausibility in the opening sequence. And the inconsistencies. And the "heroine's" questionable actions and unnatural reactions. Maybe I'm missing out. I'm okay with that.

Big Bad Wolf was my favorite of the whole bunch. Loved it so much. The second to last book in this bunch was also a solid read, and while the last book, Maureen Miller's High Tide, wasn't to my personal taste in story or heroine, I can totally understand its appeal to other readers. I'm not sure just yet how I'd rate the whole set of twelve. I'll figure that out soon.

On the bright side, I made it all the way through Dark Tide Rising. I was hooked by the tragedy of the opening sequence and pleased with the writing. Then I met the main characters. I didn't mind so much Emily's inconsistency or Mark's chauvinism. It was the many, many TSTL moments - from both of them - that did the most (but not all) damage. I ended up disliking this intensely. Big Bad Wolf is next.

To Catch Her Man lost me before I even really got started. Read like a series novel with earlier installments, and had some odd descriptions in it. Next.

Ah. I see now that Chosen by Sin is the third in DePaul's ParaOps series. That explains a lot. It also takes away any desire I have to muddle through, given that I'm feeling as lost as I am and the characters haven't thrilled me enough to make me want to figure things out. I'll DNF this one. On to the next.

In His Control was a solid like for me. It had some things about the climax and events just preceding it that made me want to choke the heroine in frustration, but overall it was a solidly entertaining read. I'm a little ways into Virna DePaul's Chosen by Sin now, though, and this one isn't working out as well. I'm a little lost.

There's a New Witch in Town is much better for me than the previous two. Had some nice moments. The ending was rushed and got way too saccharine and schmaltzy during the resolution, but it was an okay read for me.

It wasn't. Protective Custody is a DNF for me, and I didn't get far. Strike 1: Police chief goes overboard to protect adult daughter. Strike 2: Adult daughter acts like a spoiled child. Strike 3: Cop pulled in to bodyguard puts spoiled daughter over his knee AND SPANKS HER about five minutes after meeting her. Nope. Sorry. I'm done. Moving on.

Just finished Bedeviled, the second book in this boxed set, and I honestly don't think I could have disliked it any more than I did. My review will explain why, but wow - that one was NOT to my taste. Here's hoping Protective Custody is a better fit for me.
