Marxists view history through the lens of oppression. In their mind, history is one long story of oppression. Thus, the usefulness of history is not a positive source of wisdom for the present, but rather it provides warnings about how people are exploited.

Trueman points out that the shift from a "first" world to a "second" world is evidenced by people critiquing the morality of their culture without appealing to God, a higher authority, or anything that transcends the natural order. They do not see theology as necessary for their arguments.
