The blockage to Alina's power is revealed. Honestly, who didn't see it coming a mile away? The one bit not clear yet is whether there's a certain twist to it all that's been hinted at. At this point I'd be surprised to be surprised on this matter.

Alina is finally at court and settling in. The court intrigue makes things a bit more interesting, but it feels like more can be done. We shall see how things develop.

Our hero, Alina, has discovered her power while simultaneously being discovered. The triangle between her, her childhood friend, and the Darkling has already been largely laid out. Now it is to be seen if she can escape the stereotypes and tropes to make something memorable. Still on the fence in my hopes.

Started when it showed up as available as an e-book from my library and decided I wanted to read it before taking in the show.
