Aw, her blacksmith calls her "little bird"😍 I love she has someone who loves her like a daughter.

Ew. Gross. I forgot we still thought sexual assualt was funny at this point in history... It is regrettable that I made this observation at page 69. Nice.

This book is both racist and violent but mah lawd is it funny.
I know. "Helen, how can you stand this?!" It was written the 90s. Nearly 30 years ago. Society has evolved to the point where we're like "Yeah. No longer appropriate." like so many books we love. I probably won't hand it to a kid though, at least not without explaining "The g-slur is racist. They're called Romani, and hitting people isn't cool."

Okaaaaaaay. This book really uses g*psy as a slur and referred to a child as a vixen. Wtf were the 90s?

Disclaimer: This book was published in 1999, entered my local library's collection in 2000, and left in 20(19/20?). I see the big fat racial slur on the cover. We as a society have developed. This book is 22. It can legally drink. Unfortunately, there will be antiquated ideals in this book.
