(of Emily Dickinson)
To write, scribere, digging in the earth, exhuming, scratching out. She looks up at the trees outside and can’t see them anymore. In the dark, the window has become a mirror.

...is it better to have the knowledge and experience required to describe things as they truly are or the freedom to invent them?

Lori, how lovely to see you are reading this book as well! How do you get along with it so far? I didn't plan an extensive read of Dickinson's poems this year but I guess this book will bring some change of plans :).

Overall I'm entranced, very much still in the book's spell. Emily Dickinson seems the perfect subject for Forte's gifts.
As for Dickinson, I've read through and over the years read from the complete, unaltered collection and this sent me back before and since. I've always thought her poems uneven and still do but in a way it makes for interesting reading: lovely, very good, not so good, just okay then: breathtaking.
Have you read much of her? If you have no time to respond, I understand, Ilse, and await your review and hmm, the visual(s) 💐
