The actual account of the Philippine Islands by Morga comes after lengthy histories of Spanish conquests in surrounding regions such as China, Japan, and Cambodia. Comical given the title of the book. But then again, such expectations should have been decimated by the preface.

Beyond the obvious demonisation of mostly native religious and social attitudes, the account is impressively detailed and allows a keen reader to peer into the lives of those native to the Philippines around the time of the arrival of the Spaniards.
