There are some bordering-on-unsavory insights of the author.
After having been diagnosed he remarks that he sees his girlfriend for the first time without "wondering whether I would prefer someone else."
His attitude towards patients is equally grating, however I can see that this may be a way to show the reader how much he took for granted before his diagnosis. Glad to be past the first part, excited for the rest

TW: rape
thought I couldn’t get worse than talking about his dead classmates breasts. But he describes in too much detail a patient’s rape by her father when she was 6. Trying to illustrate the feelings of helplessness, but unlike other anecdotes there was no reason. Just that she “acquired a radiance” and forgave her rapist noting that his wife was “hard and cold” and that’s why he could not love. ???

Enjoying the scientific parts, detesting others. For example, he talks of a classmate who dies young of breast cancer, “she died because of a tumor in those breasts we giggled about together in the school yard when they first started to show.” I’m sorry, what the fuck?
