Black introduced his theory of self-resurrection--the idea that he could unlock the body's natural memory of its ancestral past by giving it real physical reminders. Armed with these prompts, the body could rebuild on its ancient knowledge and then "self-resurrect."

Finally finished the fictional biography part, narrating Spencer's descent to madness. He's like an Edgar Allan Poe tragic character breathed alive here in the pages. I feel sorry and repulsed about him at the same time. His preoccupation with death led to his downfall.

I think the greatest tragedy here is when his wife Elise has had enough, burned down his abattoir of research, and suffered burns herself. She is now left invalid and dependent on opium. Like, she supported him in his madness for 16 years, but a mother of two has to draw a line somewhere and rightfully so. Her husband is driven to such macabre experiments.

It's been engrossing so far even if it reads more as a cut and dry biography of Dr. Spencer Black, made to be a real historical figure for the purpose of this fiction. He believes genetic mutations and deformities have a correlation with mythological beasts and humans sharing the same DNA. I have yet to reach the best part which is the CODEX ANIMALIA where illlustrations of certain creatures are explained in detail.
