Revisiting this little gem cause I just finished a reread of Moby Dick and I’m in Melville withdrawal. I don’t have any real friends to nerd out about it with (not because I don’t have friends; I just don’t have friends who will read Moby Dick with me) so I have to settle for Nathaniel Philbrick lol.

Okay that title is fascinating because I like Moby Dick but everyone talks of it like it’s some sort of unattainable classic 😅

I've read this before and have always thought the title was a little funny because if you're going to read a whole book about why Moby Dick is great, you've probably ALREADY READ and LOVED it. ;)
Katja wrote: "Okay that title is fascinating because I like Moby Dick but everyone talks of it like it’s some sort of unattainable classic 😅"As to why people talk about it like it's unattainable, it's probably because it's long, and dense, and most Americans at least are required to read it in high school (which if they don't already enjoy reading classics, forcing them to is a terrible idea.) So it has this reputation of being the personification of boring and tedious literature. So this little book (written by a HUGE Melville nerd) is out to combat that prejudice.
