Ahmed Shah Massoud was quite clearly a military genius, the way Abdullah Anas speaks about him you would think him unparalleled in how much the people loved him.

Honesty with such a fundamental part of our deen like Jihad is so rare and it makes me happy to read this (so far). It is an autobiography of sorts about many events, as described by Abdullah Anas, who partook in the war against the Soviets during the early years of Afghani resistance. He fought under and besides Abdullah 'Azzam رحمه الله, who was his father-in-law until his death!

"After three days I met him. And the first time I laid my eyes on him, I cannot explain it, perhaps it was his magnetism or charisma, but my heart felt at rest. Some people spend all their lives searching for that perfect man, that archetype warrior, the sort of warrior we see in Saladin, Omar Mokhtar, Abdul Qadir al-Jazairi-the pinnacle of chivalry. I believe my heart had found him."
