Glad I reached into my backlist stack for this one. The first story is so clever and vicious for its twisted interpretation of racial inferiority. ZZ Packer is quite the storyteller.

this is my favorite short stories collection ever and I mourn the fact that there's no new fiction by Packer every single day!

I can't believe this one was published nearly two decades ago—insane. I read she's been working on a post-Civil War era novel for years now, looking forward to reading more of her work.
Fingers crossed! And I only picked this one up when it first came out because I liked the title!
