I've held off on reading Julie Klassen for years now, and I'm beginning to see why. The story has potential, but the writing isn't of the quality I'd expected. Hopefully it'll get better...

Laura I feel like some of her books are like that while others, the writing and story are stellar . I've not read this one though

Hmm, that's strange. I wonder why it's so inconsistent. If this one doesn't improve, I may still give her another try. I've heard great things about The Painter's Daughter!

Heather Wood I haven't liked her style in any of the books I've tried... I think I've started three and have yet to finish one.

Oy. That doesn't bode too well for this one! I honestly think I could get into the story if it weren't for the style...it's kinda tell-y, isn't it?

Heather Wood Yes it is; I've yet to be hooked or emotionally engaged with any of her characters. She has a lot of fans, so it must just be that I can't connect with her style.

Ah, that's what I was thinking. Well, you're not the only one, so... *shrugs* Maybe it's the writer in us. ;)

Heather Wood I wonder if old me would have liked it and I've gotten too picky the more I read and write. It really is inconvenient sometimes.

So do I! Probably so. I know I've gone back to some old books/authors I used to enjoy and it just wasn't the same. :( It really is!
