Never knew what to think about this one, since it’s not something I would ever pick up. However, it’s going quite well. Functional prose (meh!) and plenty of dialogue (and things left unspoken) among the key characters. Most importantly, for a historical novel, it’s not littered with research that simply has to find a way in; it has breathing space from all that while still ensuring things are of its time.

Not something I’d ordinarily read, but was sent years ago, unsolicited, and it’s sat on my shelves ever since. Therefore reading it as part of a project to dispose of some books (but reading them first) that need not be clogging up my shelves.
Seems to be an easy enough slice of historical fiction set around the creation of the War Graves Commission. Mostly set in France 1920; identifying the fallen so far.
