There were some differences between the anime and manga in the storyline about the dance.

Nanami didn't invite Utena and Anthy to the dance, nor was she in the first volume at all. That was interesting, but overall, I'm indifferent about the change because Nanami is a brat.

Anthy's submissiveness broke my heart, but I'm relieved that she told Saionji to physically let her go. And then Utena was noble by standing in between Anthy and Saionji to protect Anthy.

I loved the drama and suspense at the end of this volume as well as the cliffhanger. The manga is well written so far and I enjoyed volume one A LOT. I loved the art too! ❤

I loved how Utena stood up to Touga and gave him a piece of her mind whenever he gave her unwanted physical affection! And she threw roses at him! Go Utena!! ❤🎉🎉

The design of Utena's dress was a lil' different in the manga than it was in the anime. But that's a minor change too. No biggie! 🙂

'Wakaba, you're as heavy as an old sack of monkeys today...'

I laughed pretty hard when Utena said that to Wakaba. 😂😂

I loved how Utena wanted Anthy to have autonomy over her life. And she looked so fierce and determined in her duel against Saionji. Just Utena, my love!! 😍❤❤

Touga's permissiveness of Saionji physically abusing Anthy is fucking detestable. 🙄😤 Smh.

As much as I like Wakaba, I hated how she referred to Saionji as 'sweet'. Sweet men don't slap women. Yeesh! I understand the context behind why Wakaba called him sweet. That's pretty obvious.

The events in this volume are extremely similar to the anime.

I'm glad that Wakaba showed. Yay!! She jumped on Utena, called her lovely, and told her that she's the only one for Wakaba. 😍❤❤

I LOVED how Utena thought about how she wanted to be a prince who protected people. 😁

Kaido isn't as shitty of a person as I initially thought he was, since he helped her find out where the letters came from. He's okay, after all.

I wonder what Kaido lied to Utena about. I'll have to find out when I resume my reading tomorrow because I've read a lot from this volume today.

I wonder when Wakaba will show up. She was a fun and endearing character in the anime. 😊❤️ I'd love to see her in the manga.

Welp, I read some pretty dramatic stuff. Utena strives to be noble with her actions the way that the prince told her to when she was a grief-stricken child. That reflects in her behavior and the treatment of people who are around her. I really like that about her character. 🙂

I read a review of this volume about how Utena referred to the prince as Mr. Licky Lick. I don't know if "Mr. Licky Lick" was a translation error, but Utena calling him by that name doesn't bother me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm indifferent to the idea of her calling him prince or Mr. Licky Lick after reading and understanding the context.

I'm glad that Utena's aunt, Yurika, is indifferent about her niece's gender presentation. She doesn't care that Utena wears a boy's uniform to school in spite of the administrative staff throwing a shit-fit about it. That's pretty awesome of Yurika. 😊
