I think it’s very cool how Cooper uses the shape of the words themselves to emphasize the emotion of them being said. It’s clever, adding to the overall effect as word and image work together. E. g.: to say “forever” in the right emotional tone, “ever” is a larger size and on a different slant than “for” and underlined. I can hear it in my head, matched with the speaker’s drawn face—kapow: alive.

Lots of thought-provoking panels and scenes, but it felt unfinished at story’s end. Captivating and cleverly, uniquely told, unapologetically gritty and human, even had an approachable somber type of philosophy, but ultimately lacking in emotional connection.

This is excellent! Refreshingly wonderful after the impregnable feeling of Different Ugliness, Different Madness. I’m excited! Love this. Still detailed panels, but lots of soft lines, close-up frames of significant actions and emotions. Dialogue is sharp, pointed, thoughtful and deep, without being wordy. Topic way more personal and in-your-face.
