Lyra had known she was in love with Luke for a long time. It was something that thrilled her and filled her days with wonder. Between Luke and her girls, her life was full.

Alyssa looked up at Naomi. “He’s a superhero.” “He really is, isn’t he?” Naomi said, but it was Lyra that Luke was looking at. He soaked her in, needing to reassure himself she was okay as he heard the sounds of police arriving and Chad calling out that they needed an ambulance. His eyes stayed on Lyra’s. She was the most beautiful sight he’d ever seen.

A sickening crack sounded as her wrist hit the floor and pain shot up her arm and twisted her gut. She scrambled, crawling forward, reaching. Trying to stand, to move, to run. He was on her, hands fisted in her hair as he swore at her, slamming her head into the concrete floor again and again.

Damon must have run his mouth enough for Naomi to know he had Lyra and the twins, and she was telling him to go after the girls. That was how she was. It was the kind of person she was soul deep, and he loved that about her. Damon disconnected and Luke looked up at Zach. He intended to save all of them. Naomi, the twins, and Lyra.

“Can you take off for a few days? I need extra eyes right now.” “You’re working without backup?” “Without backup, without a net, without a damned thing. And there are . . . complications.” Most notably, his feelings for a gorgeous woman and her incredible girls. He couldn’t let Lyra get hurt in all this.

When she wasn’t in his arms, she had occasionally wondered what he’d think of her body. But the minute his hands and mouth were on her, that hesitancy was forgotten. There was no analyzing, no worry, no feeling she might not be enough. With every touch, he told her again and again that she was enough.

“He likes you, too. You should take advantage of the access this month and have a fling. You need it.” “What are you talking about? You’re crazy!” Savannah shook her head while Tracy laughed. “You can look at me like that all you want, Lyra. It’s not going to change facts. That man was eying you like you were dessert.

Zach was right about one thing, though. Luke didn’t have a clue what to do with his life now that Naomi wasn’t at home. Now that she didn’t need him the same way she had. Leaving the SEAL teams hadn’t been easy for Luke, but it had been the right move for Naomi, who’d lost everything in one split second of stupidity.
