Lol. Emmett is so concerned for the honour of this cabin boy and yet he happily locks himself into a prostitute's contract. And a dangerous one at that, since his client is one who can easily have him killed.

Andrewe is very much the abuser in a DV-type relationship. Typical signs are there: cutting him off from family; taunting him with threats against the people he loves; verbal attacks; physical attacks/threats of attacks; power dominating. But Emmett doesn't have the mentality of a typical abused partner: he doesn't think he deserves such treatment, nor does he think he can change Andrewe or that they are in love.

First thought when I read the last sentence? Poor Marianna, the future wife of Andrewe. I should rate this book lower because the last third makes me angry and annoyed at the lack of growth and the light dismissal of the serious problems these men have in their tentative "love you forever" love, but the first two thirds were so exciting, I will give in and grant a three star rating.

What the hell?? Skippity skip, all is happy, no mention of Emmet's dad, and apparently, he's Jim dandy with being the future king's courtesan. LOLZ. My gods, this story is frustrating.

Seriously? Seriously? His PARENTS are going to shove his problems? LOLZ. Is he a baby? Children in grade school are embarrassed to have their parents solve their problems. Sure, sometimes a problem needs intervention, when a child does not have the emotional or literal means to help himself... oh, wait. The prince is pretty much at that child level.

Andrewe has shown some growth, but it's wobbly and I certainly wonder, if all goes well, would Emmett still be cut off from has father, his freedom to make decisions, etc.? I don't really know why Emmett loves Andrewe. Enough to not want to live without him. How much joy does Andrewe truly provide to Emmett? Does Emmett feel good about himself around Andrewe? Noooot a lot.

Oh mah gawwwwd. Now, in reply to Emmet's inquiry 'how can you allow a man you love to be hurt,' Andrewe is arguing that he was afraid he'd lose him, so, Out of desperation, he chained him. AND--he's threatening suicide. Emotional Quotient just dropped 100. Such a manipulator--unconsciously, but still.

I don't like Thomas, the man whispering anarchy. He's slimy and self-interested as well. He doesn't seem driven by true justice or love of his fellow man. It's as if he wants to use (or own) Emmett as much as the prince does. Run far and fast, Emmett; neither cause--rebels or monarchs--deserves your attentions. (The author is doing a good job at portraying both sides. I can sympathize with both.)

Heaven helps us all. That boy-man of a Prince has abysmally low emotional intelligence or awareness. Unless some maturing and some redeeming happens awfully fast and dead-on believable, I am not going to care of Emmett betrays this silly prince.

The bond between Emmett and the Prince is weak--it seems only pleasure-based, with Emmett being good at soothing and the prince being good at receiving Emmett's soothing.
