Yearly reread

I get trying to give different characters different voices, but this narrator gives everyone except the main characters a slightly stilted foreign accent even though everyone's from the same damn city

Giving the audiobook a go this time around :)

One thing about this book I think people either hate or love is that the story meanders. I love how the stories from Locke's childhood are interweaved with the story taking place in the present, it paints a nice picture of who he is and makes the world-building feel very natural

I love this book an unhealthy amount

"You've got that motherly concern in your eyes, Jean. I must look like hammered shit."
I just think it's incredibly good and cool and sad and funny how Locke constantly joke about Jean being overprotective when Locke himself wouldn't hesitate to kill himself if it meant saving Jean

One of my fave things about the gang is that they've become filthy rich from the games they've pulled and yet they continue to steal because that's all they know and they're just having a great time outsmarting people together as a team

Locke and Jean's dynamic is unbeatable, they're both annoying bastards and they just go together like clockwork

Locke literally begs Bug to blame him for what happened but Bug refuses. I can’t get over the image of Locke holding Bug’s tiny head in his bloody hands while sobbing uncontrollably and yeah I cry at this part every time

Will I ever get tired of reading the line “Nice bird, asshole” ?
