My silence will not protect me; my silence will not save me from fear and pain. Silence is the element of anti-racism that is most challenging for me to break through. My ancestors remained silent and complacent and I need to continuously push against this. No matter how far I come I often slip back into the silence as it feels easy -- but it eats away at me and harms others. I needed to hear this first essay today.
