What a rascal is H L Mencken. Never graduated from high school, he worked his way into the literati of his day, including an older Theodore Dreiser. A very daring and confident young man—I’ve not known one in real life. Although his friendship with Monsieur Nathan, who attended mall the best universities, is a match that makes for very good copy, in their magazine, « The Smart Set. ». Cool name, no?
