Read The Murders in the Rue Morgue, supposedly the first detective story ever written that inspired the likes of Sherlock Holmes and his science of deduction. Poe can be really long-winded but it was an interesting read. The murders itself were gruesome and perplexing until Dupin solved it, of course.

Read The Black Cat and I've to say that cat-lovers will most likely find this story way too disturbing.
