Finished the first two stories so far. I'm not entirely certain if the writer is setting out to make some negative analysis of masculinity or if he's just that enmeshed in it. The first story could almost have been deliberately calling it out - the narrator complains of his elder son's distance and yet also chafes whenever his wife shows their younger son any tenderness. All female characters are ciphers.
